The Upper Westside (Broadway)

I was bored and had to run some errands, so I thought I would post some pictures of Manhattan's Upper Westside from Broadway to Columbus Circle.

Broadway is one of the main thoroughfares on the upper westside.

The neighborhood architecture various from Central Park West to the Hudson River.  On CPW you have gorgeous old school white glove buildings and as you progress west, you have quite a few urban renewal projects that look like human warehouses.

Broadway itself is a mix of architectures, styles, businesses and energy.  That in itself is what makes the area desirable.

I exit the train on 72 Street and Broadway where I'm greeted with a stunning view of the Ansonia.

You can rent a unit here for 8.5k a month.  To think back in the day Bette Midler and Barry Manilow sang in the basement.

From here I can see all the way to Columbus Circle.

The 72 Street subway station was renovated a few years ago.  A second station house was added.  It was needed as those platforms were ubber small.

Across the street you can see the new station (north side of 72 St.)

It's like playing a real life version of "Chicken".
The Dorilton.  Another fabulous building.

What I loosely describe as human warehouses.  The Lincoln Towers.  1960's urban renewal at it's finest.  NOT.

Even the new buildings look like the bland
and soulless developments you find in the South.

The now closed Martin Luther King High School

The best thing to come out of the westside urban renewal.  Lincoln Center.
Although the Lincoln Center development resulted in many african Americans being displaced.

The Upper Westside must have been super
cheap back in the day.
