I woke up early and with the weather being very nice for February, I decided to take a walk on the Brooklyn Bridge.
I thought I would be able to make it downtown in time to catch the sun rise. Unfortunately that didn't happen, but the good news is made it to the bridge before the tourists arrived.
Exiting the subway, I noticed there was quite a bit of traffic at 7:15am. I didn't think there would be much vehicular or pedestrian traffic in lower Manhattan this early on a Saturday.
Enroute to the Bridge, I pass thru City Hall Park. The crown jewel of the park is the Jacob Wrey Mould Victorian fountain.
Once through the park I enter onto the Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge is void of tourists, YEAH!!!
The Brooklyn Bridge was opened in 1903 and originally carried horse draw trolley on the interior lanes. Subways and trolley also used the span at one time or another.
View of Pearl Street....
.....and the uber expensive Frank Gehry Beekman Tower condo. The skin on the building give it the affect of being wrapped in Reynolds Wrap.
On to the Bridge. The bridge is adorned with two very informative commemorative tablets.
From the Bridge you have amazing Manhattan views of Lower Manhattan, the Lower Eastside and various parts of Midtown.
Located just north of the Brooklyn Bridge, you'll feel as though you can reach out an touch sister bridge, the Manhattan Bridge.
At the Brooklyn side of the Bridge a major restoration project is underway.
Isssss Brooklyn in the house?? Shot outs to Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo. I remember when Dumbo was just, "that dangerous area, under the bridge" and where "those people" from the Watchtower hung out!
It's 8am, why the stampede/migration OUT of Brooklyn? I thought Brooklyn was hip??
This much traffic on the Bridge at 8am is ridiculous!
I wonder if they are trying to make this ferry?!
Time to head home, but while I'm downtown I guess I'll check out what else is happening.
The New Fulton Street transportation Center.
Construction at the World Trade Center.
Look ma...It's Joisy!
Well that's all from Downtown. I'll try to visit in Spring, to check on progress in various areas.
I'll end this tour with a stop in Times Square.
