Paper Moon

As I was walking in Georgetown I randomly selected Paper Moon. Located just off M street on 31, it's wide open space looked like a good place to take a break and people watch.

The hostess greeted me and seated me immediately as the space is large and appears to be hard to fill.  The decor is kitschy in a spooky kind of way.  It appears they were going for authentic or vintage Italian but didn't get it!  Since this is a casual restaurant, they must feel they can get away with it, but to me it screams "tourist trap".

Sitting there I was review pictures, 10 minutes passed and I realized no server had come.  When I looked up, only then he came over.  I didn't really mind, since t was lunch time and I wasn't ready to  order. I had to ask for water and bread.  Isn't this standard?

Looking over the menu, I can see it's moderately priced, with a good variety of options.  I ordered Fried Mozzerlla as an appetizer and the fancy salad for my entree.

The mozzerella was great, crispy breading on the outside and molten cheese on the inside.  Artery clogging good!

The Fancy salad, a Caesar salad with grilled chicken, steak and shrimp was large and very filling.  I wasn't asked how I would like my steak, as I usually like it a in-between rare/medium rare.  In addition, the meat was little cold and there was a bit too much dressing on the salad.

During my meal, I dont think I saw my server again.  I had to ask another sever to get him.  The overal experience is really inconsistent.

Overall, this was a bust.  Food is mid-range in quality and price.  Service is inconsistant at best.  Could be a good place but I cannot recommend giving this place a second chance, as there is better Italian in the area.

My "fancy caesar" was basically a caesar salad with grilled chicken, NY strips and grilled shrimp. It tasted decent enough, but the meat was a little cold. The waitress didn't ask how I wanted my steak cooked (it came well-done). There wasn't really any seasoning of any kind on the meat.
