Morningside Park

Morningside park is the geographical boundary between the Harlem neighborhoods of Morningside Heights and Central Harlem.  Morningside D

Morningside park like St. Nicholas Park and Marcus Garvey Park is built on a rocky base, which looks over the Harlem or "the flats" as some long time residents call Central Harlem.  These parks are remnants of surfaces that could not be built upon.

I didn't cover the entire park, this is just a teaster.

Along Morningside Avenue

Approaching the pond, in summer this man-made feature turns on at 7AM and automatically turns off at 7PM

Columbia University wanted to build an

athletic center here.  You can see blast marks.
Harlem residents banded together to stop this project

The Mallards, Marisol and Marquis
He was quacking and she was straight ignoring him!  LOL

From one of the tiered landings you can see
The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine

Up the stairs to Morningside Drive
I think I'm going to run these stairs.
Looks like a good cardio work out.

Atop the stairs is the Carl Schurz Memorial
On the sides are marble relief's representing
African-Americans and Native Americans, groups whose rights Schurz defended.
The massive retaining wall that
outlines Morningside Drive

Here at the overlook you get sweeping views of Manhattan

Central Harlem it's gorgeous prewar buildings
and a sprinkle of new construction

That other park, Central Park and
High rise condos on 110 Street

The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine

Construction of this portion of the cathedral halted in the 40s
and a fire damaged it in 2001
