Decided to take a stroll around the neighborhood yesterday with DatDamnNatasha and we decided to checkout Harlem’s Meat. Harlem’s meats is family owned and operated and this is their second Harlem location.
Harlem’s meats is located on the St. Nicholas Avenue side of Harlem USA complex.
From the outside the store is viewed as pretty basic, but once inside, you can see where the money was spent. The space is very modern, with slate floors, glass tiles, and deep display cases. My creative side thinks they want to make your shopping experience unique by giving the store a boutique feel. My only issue with the décor is the lighting. The ceiling is black and there is only light on the deli side of the store, which makes the space very uneven. It spring now the inside of the store seems quite dark. Come this winter who knows how this is going to play out.
There is fresh produce by the entrance. On the right side of the store, is a long dairy case that runs nearly the entire side of the store. At the far end of the store you’ll find deli meats. Of the items we check the prices were lower than some other stores in the area.
Opposite the dairy case are the meat cases. They had a huge selection of fresh meats. I reminded me of what I would find at an old school market. Smoked meats, whole meats, Organic meats it was great. The people shopping in the store while I was there seemed to be very receptive of the offerings. You can even buy meat “plans” where you get certain amount of meats for a set price. Seems like a good deal for a family. Just looking at all that juicy meat made me hungry! I am disappointed that they do not carry any seafood.
The staff was really nice professional and even filled a special request for a little guy named Lucky!
This is definitely the type of store I would support.
Be sure to check out Harlem's Meats and let me know what you think.
