I thought I would check out the Chicago Sheraton so I can maximize my bonus period. I not a Sheraton person, and when in Chicago I normally stay at one of the two Westin’s or the W City Center but for shit and giggles I thought I would check the place out.
This property located just east of Michigan Avenue and easily accessible via all modes of transportation.
Entering the hotel you walk into a massive reception area. Its obvious this is a convention property. I step up to reception, my elite credentials are checked and I’m told my room is ready and I’ve been upgraded. I think, “great”. I walk through the lobby and it’s like a giant waiting area. There are people there waiting to check-in and check-out along with groups and events. There is free wi-fi in this area. You need to walk through this area to get to the elevators.
There are two elevator banks and virtually no wait . I arrive on my floor, and immediately have visions of the old and dated Westin Bonaventure. The dingy beige/mustard wall paper color is nauseating. The walk to my room was painfully long.
I arrive at my room open the door and it’s I was in a 90’s hot tub time warp. The wallpaper is closing in on me...help! I was assigned a extended King room, smallest upgrade I’ve ever had. Entering the room, the bathroom is on the right and the closet on the left. You walk a few feet forward and straight ahead is a love seat, to left the TV and seating area and the right the bed and desk. The view itself was even sub-par.
The furniture was scratched up and well used. The sweet sleeper is a bit lumpy. It was basic at best. There were decent amount of electrical outlet.
The bathroom was equally dated, but dated and cold. The lighting was atrocious, but they did have a full compliment of toiletries and lots of towels.
The closet wasn’t very large. My one carry-on barely fit in. That old 80’s safe takes up a lot of space.
The gym was nice, spacious with lots of cardio equipment and the pool was nice, spacious and well maintained.
The lower level of the property there is a Sheraton link center and cafe. Good for those who dont want to carry a computer but need Internet access.
I didn’t use the concierge, any one of the three on-site restaurants, the Club Lounge, business center or use valet parking during my stay.
